Enloe Museum Searches Delta County for Top Five Bois d'arc Trees

The latest project underway at the Enloe Museum, involves a search of Delta County for the top five largest Bois d'Arc trees, that can be documented in the county.  Clara Foster Slough Museum intern, Lane Duncan, is investigating leads and taking measurements of bois d'arc specimens, and hopes to determine the locations of the largest trees, and will record the entries and locations at the museum in Enloe.  A ceremony will be planned to recognize the trees, sometime in the fall of 2014 and during a selected Enloe community event, yet to be determined.

Rose Hill

Rose Hill is the site of a plantation owned by Col. Robert M. Jones, in the 1830's.  Many large cedar and Bois d'arc specimen can be found on the site and in the area.








The site is located approximately seven miles southeast of Hugo, Oklahoma.

'The Seven Bois D'Arcs'

The research team recently visited an area told to have once been an encampment for a wagon train, identified as 'The Seven Bois d'Arcs'.  The specimen found here are huge trees, that have no doubt provided shade for many a traveler over the years !

Allen Station - Steam Engine Train Water Stop

The Allen Station train stop used by the Houston & Central Texas Railway Company for water replenishment on the steam engine trains, is in the midst of a very nice grove of Bois D'Arc trees.
















Allen Station - Allen Heritage Park

The Allen Station Heritage Park property rests on a creek bank, and is bordered by a grove of Bois D'Arcs.
